TEHRAN — Gasoline prices in Iran have risen steadily and dramatically in recent years, but at 22 cents per liter, they are still some of the cheapest in the world.

Although Iranians have traditionally adjusted quickly to rate hikes without noticeably changing their consumption habits, a new increase scheduled for this week will test the patience of a public that has been waiting nearly a year for signs of an economic recovery promised by President Hassan Rouhani when he was elected last June.
