WorldViews: Islamic State seizes part of Palmyra, home to Syria’s most famous ancient ruins

Reports indicate that Islamic State militants in Syria are encircling Palmyra, a famous, ancient Roman-era city and a UNESCO World Heritage site. They have seized part of the town of Tadmur, which is adjacent to the ruined city.
