WorldViews: ‘Tomorrow my life will change, and all of this will be a bad memory’

CALAIS, France — Arriving in this French port city aboard a sleek Eurostar train from London, I worried that I might have trouble finding the migrants whose presence was the reason for my visit.

They are in Calais, after all, to do something illicit: to sneak into Britain, land of their dreams. Perhaps they would be difficult to track down, or wary of discussing their intentions with a reporter asking prying questions.
